Moose & Wildlife Safari Stockholm

Meet animals on this moose & wildlife safari in Stockholm! Animals such as the king of the forest (moose), roe deer, fallow deer, wild boar, foxes, birds of prey and more. Expect campfire dinner, tracking wildlife on a hike, and visiting hotspots by van where we often see moose and other wildlife. Our guides keep track of the movement of the animals so we know just where to find them! On every wildlife safari we have seen at least 2 out of the 3 focus animals (moose, deer, boar) but usually we get to see all three. Did you know that we have seen moose on over 95% of our safaris?!

Wildlife: The most important animals we aim to see are moose, deer, and wild boar. Also common to see on the safari are Buzzard, Falcon and many other bird species. Other animals that can be seen are badger, fox and hare. Present but very rare is also linx. UPDATE: Since Summer 2017 we now have small numbers of fallow deer in the area!

”My boyfriend and I did the nature safari last Monday evening and it was awesome. Our guide was incredibly friendly and helpful and the way the evening ran was lovely. We got to know everyone in our group over some really nice vegan food, which was supplied by the tour, before heading out to see some wildlife by foot and by driving. We had an awesome trip, seeing wild boar, roe deer and moose. We actually were lucky in seeing a moose and her young. Our tour guide was so knowledgeable.”

”The moose safari was the absolute highlight of our trip to Stockholm! Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. I learned a lot about Stockholm wildlife and maybe it is worth to mention the Green Trails are very concerned with sustainability as well. Mind you, it is not a safari like you would have in Africa, the animals are incredibly shy and hard to spot, which made it the more exciting when we spotted a moose about 10 meters away! Overall a great experience and I will definitely try their kayaking tour next time I am in Stockholm.”

”Pieter was extremely friendly and knowledgeable, and very flexible to adjust the tour to meet our expectations. After a very nice dinner on the verge of the forest, we went on a hike for about 1 hour to try to spot some deer, wild boar or moose. Unfortunately, we did not see anything at that stage and were beginning to feel a bit deflated. Our wait was well worth it as we finally managed to see a moose just a few meters away on the side of the road, on the edge of the forest. A few meters farther, we spotted another one. We had the most amazing experience, as the moose came down on the little dirt road, allowing us real close up. In the end, we saw 6 moose, which was great. The safari is a bit pricey but worth it as there is a real excitement in seeing these animals in the wild.”

”A truely unique and eventful experience. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and most importantly very passionate about the Swedish wildlife and environment. The safari included dinner outdoors by a camp fire and a sweet surprise at the end! As well as that we did some trekking in the beautiful forests coming across plentiful wild deer and frogs! This all built up to the moment we saw a huge moose. An incredible feeling which was made all the better by the guide’s genuine excitement! It lasted over 6 hours and we even got taken back to our hotel. Overall a wonderful day and great value. I will definitely be trying out another Green trails tour soon.”

When is best for wildlife watching in Stockholm?

Each part of the wildlife season is different. Here we divide up the season, focused on the behavior of moose.

Early season (May): last year's calves get rejected, which makes them confused. Often they roam around in the open, which offers for great daylight sightings.

Mid season (June - early August): due to the long days, most sightings happen in good light, even though moose can be a bit trickier to find during hot days.

Late season (early August - mid September): that's when we see big antlers! As days get shorter and evenings darker, many sightings happen in dusk. We use torches to spot animals when it gets too dark.

 Itinerary

  • Rendez vous @ the meeting point.

Small groups

Small groups for a personal experience. And an actual chance of seeing moose and other wildlife! On our safari we average about 4-6 participants per guide (max 8).

With more than 8 participants there will be 2 guides and 2 groups. Both guides are in touch with each other by radio throughout the trip, covering different areas: this increases your chance of seeing moose and other wildlife, as both guides can communicate any wildlife sightings! Dinner is enjoyed together. Max 15 participants in 2 groups with 2 guides.

  Meeting point

We meet @ our Urban Basecamp in the heart of Södermalm (Tideliusgatan 62, 118 69 Stockholm).
