The ship

The ‘Three Crowns’ was built in Stockholm using traditional shipbuilding techniques and inspired by historic brig designs. The ship is 35 meters long (45 meters with bowsprit) with two masts and sixteen sails. Under the wooden decks and old-school appearance, you’ll also find kitchens, cabins and the practical things modern humans have grown attached to. The sailing, lines and everything else mirrors the way it was done traditionally, with modern safety regulations.

Sailing on a historical ship such as this is a unique experience and there are not many places in the world where this is possible. The cost for upkeep & repairs are massive. The crew and staff is largely covered by volunteers. By joining this tour, you help keeping this project alive, making it possible for people to experience this way of sailing as well as assisting in cleaning up the Baltic Sea. Eco-Tourism at its best! That is why we are really excited that the Three Crowns Association choose us as it’s official partner!

Life at sea

There is something slightly confusing about spending a day on an old sailing ship in the middle of Stockholm. One moment there are traffic lights and office buildings, and a little later you’re watching pine trees, open water and gulls having loud discussions about something.

This is not one of those boats where everyone politely sits in rows looking at things. The ‘Three Crowns’ is a tall ship and sailing it involves ropes, sails and people moving around on deck. Join in if you feel like it. Pull a line, help set sail or ask questions. Or just stretch out on deck and stare at clouds doing cloud things. Some people step onboard and immediately start helping with ropes and sails. Others find a spot on deck and become very committed to looking at islands pass by. Both approaches seem to work surprisingly well.
